Feature request: Schedule a lesson plan or learning experience across multiple days in the timetable
Requested by: Dover School District (NJ). This affects the middle and high school pilot teachers now, and all staff at the full rollout.
The need
Dover teachers have to submit lesson plans every week. To support that, we built them a custom Lesson Plan template with a Duration field, so one plan can cover several days or a whole week.
The district's goal is for administrators to open the timetable on any day and see every lesson plan in the building. For that to work, a weekly plan has to show up in every class period it covers, not only on the day it was first added.
Current behavior
Copy task to can copy an item to several periods on the same day, but only to one calendar day at a time.
To cover a full week, teachers repeat the copy for each day and each class section. For example, a plan for 3 sections over 5 days means about 5 separate copy actions and 15 placements, and that's for one plan in one week.
Multi-day content doesn't carry forward across days or weeks on its own.
The Duration field is plain text and isn't connected to the timetable.
Impact
It takes teachers a lot of time every week, which works against adoption during the pilot. Dover wants plans online starting in October.
Admins see gaps when a teacher misses a day, so the timetable can't be trusted as the district's record of lesson plans.
Teachers who link a live Google Doc as their lesson plan have the same problem and must re-add the link each week.
What's needed
Date-range scheduling. When adding an item to the timetable or using Copy task to, let the teacher choose a start and end date, with quick options like "This week" and "Next week," plus the class sections. The item is then placed in every period those sections meet during that range.
Respect the real schedule. Skip days a section doesn't meet, such as A/B rotations, holidays and non-instructional days.
One linked item, not separate copies. An item scheduled across several days stays a single item. Edits show up in every session, and the teacher can still remove it from one session without affecting the others.
Clear multi-day display. In each timetable block, show that the item spans several days, for example "Day 2 of 5" or a date range. This should look the same in the admin and staff timetable views.
Works for all content types: lesson plans, learning experiences, assessments and attached links or Google Docs.
Acceptance criteria
A teacher can schedule one lesson plan to all of a section's meetings for a week in a single action.
An admin viewing any day in that range sees the plan in the correct periods.
Editing the plan once updates it in every scheduled session.
Days the section doesn't meet are skipped automatically.
Broader relevance: Gateway High School uses the same Timetable setup, and other NJ/PA districts with weekly lesson plan rules will likely need this too.
